St. Thomas mushrooms, often mistaken for bubble tip anemones, come in a wide variety of colors, sizes and shape variations. Exhibiting a structure similar anemones, the St. Thomas has long, rounded tentacles surrounding an oral disc. "Ultras" are known for their more vivid and rarer color variations. These mushroom corals are photosynthetic and medium level light source. A medium flow rate help it gather food from the water column.

Mushroom corals can have a semi-aggressive sting in relation to other corals and can move about rock structures at a painstakingly slow pace if unhappy. However, they tear via fission in order to reproduce with this same movement so lighting and flow conditions are not the sole reasons for movement. A diet of smaller inverts such as mysis provide additional nutrition needs.
